The clouding of binary mixtures of Triton X-100/Tween-80 and Tween-20/Brij-35 has been investigated at different compositions. The effects of ionic surfactants, SDS and CTAB on the clouding of the above binary mixtures have been also studied. The clouding of the polymers PVA and MC has been as well examined in presence of the surfactant Brij-56. The phenomenon of clouding (which is essentially a phase separation of the species in solution at a paticular temperature) has been examined in terms of solubilization process to estimate-the associated enthalpy (ΔH0Cl), free energy(ΔG0Cl) and entropy (ΔS0Cl) values by procesing the mole fractional solubility in the light of van't Hoff type equation. The solubilisation and the energetic parameters have been attempted to rationalize and explain on physical-chemical basis.Keywords

Curcumin (C21H20O6), a natural antioxidant is the active ingredient of turmeric powder and is well documented for centuries for its medicinal properties owing to the treatment of a variety of inflammatory conditions and other diseases in Indian and Chinese systems of medicine. Curcumin is poorly water soluble. Recently, different micellar systems have been used for the incorporation of curcumin over a wide range of pH values to investigate its solubility and stability with the help of spectroscopic techniques. Curcumin is also used as a probe for the determination of the critical micellar concentrations of different amphiphiles spectroscopically. This pigment behaves in a different way depending on the type of the micelles and pH of the medium. This review summarizes all such investigations.Keywords

The interactions between the cationic surfactant Dodecyltrimethylammonium Bromide (DTAB) and anionic polymer sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) in aqueous medium were studied at 300K over different concentrations of Na-CMC by tensiometry, conductometry, viscometry, turbidimetry and fluorimetry. Aggregation of surfactant was attained in two steps, the first being the monomeric adsorption of surfactants on anionic sites of the polymer saturating at lower concentrations of surfactant and the second one being the formation of micelles by surfactants at higher concentrations. Mainly, two types of interactions prevailed throughout namely, electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. Due to the variation of the interactions depending on the concentrations of polymer, there has been considerable differences in the behavioural pattern of the profiles for the lower concentrations of polymer compared to that of the upper ones.Keywords

This paper presents the approach the design of home automation system using dual tone multiple frequency based home automation system. Today’s the demand for better home security systems has drifted over to a need for home automation. Not only does a home need to be secure but home appliances need a more refined control system. Home appliances should not be limited to only local control. There needs to be a simple and elegant way to avoid this type of situation and allow people the freedom of having complete control of their house from anywhere. Using a mobile and help of micro controller home appliances will be controlled.Keywords

The web has transformed the ways in which people search, find, use and communicate information. Web 2.0 technologies have become the subject of interest as they facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability, dynamic content, openness, and user participation. This paper assesses the need for developing Information Literacy skills with the help of web 2.0 technologies in four engineering institutions coming under Moulana Abul Kalam Institute of Technology (MAKAUT). A questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The paper concludes that the concept of information literacy using web 2.0 technologies in the technical institute of MAKAUT is in a developing stage.Keywords
